Bhubaneswar: Odisha’s Health and Family Welfare Minister and Jharsuguda MLA Naba Kisore Das passed away today evening. He was 61.
Das sustained a bullet injury at around 12:20 pm today afternoon at Gandhi Chowk in Brajarajnagar, when he was shot at by an Assistant Sub Inspector of Police from point blank range.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has expressed deepest condolences on the demise of the Minister.
Das was airlifted from Jharsuguda to Bhubaneswar and admitted to Apollo Hospitals here. After undergoing treatment for about four hours, a critically injured Health Minister succumbed to his injuries.
A pall of gloom descended upon political and public spheres after the news of the demise of the Minister was officially shared to the media.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, political leaders and people from all walks of life, have condemned the incident.
With the passing away of Das, the State has lost a popular and strong political leader from Western Odisha.
