Bhubaneswar: Titlagarh recorded the highest temperature in Odisha at a scorching 43.5°C on Friday, as per the evening weather bulletin issued by the India Meteorological Department’s Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar. The data highlights the continuing grip of intense heatwave conditions across western and interior parts of the state.
Several other towns also reported extreme temperatures above 40°C, including Jharsuguda (41.2°C), Sambalpur (41.2°C), Bolangir (42.3°C), Bhawanipatna (41.5°C), Boudh (40.5°C), and Sonepur (40.4°C). Angul and Malkangiri also recorded temperatures exceeding 40°C, indicating widespread heat stress across interior districts.
In contrast, coastal areas remained relatively less affected, though still warm and humid. Bhubaneswar recorded 35.7°C, while Cuttack logged 35.8°C. Gopalpur reported a comparatively lower maximum temperature of 32.4°C, influenced by coastal conditions.
Humidity levels remained high in many regions, particularly in coastal and southern districts, exacerbating discomfort. Morning relative humidity levels were above 80% in several stations such as Puri, Gopalpur, and Jagatsinghpur.
Rainfall activity was largely negligible across the state. Only Baripada recorded notable precipitation at 28 mm during the past 24 hours, while most other locations reported either zero rainfall or trace amounts, indicating dry conditions prevailing over most parts of Odisha.
The weather pattern suggests continued heatwave conditions in western Odisha, with little relief expected in the immediate term. Authorities are likely to maintain advisories urging people to avoid exposure during peak afternoon hours and stay hydrated.
The IMD is expected to closely monitor evolving conditions, particularly the possibility of localized thunderstorms that could bring temporary respite in isolated pockets.
