Bhubaneswar: Several districts of Odisha experienced intense rainfall activity during the last 24 hours, with four stations recording very heavy rainfall, according to data released by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Tuesday.

As per the IMD bulletin recorded at 8:30 am today, four stations received very heavy rainfall ranging between 115.6 mm and 204.4 mm, while 16 other stations recorded heavy rainfall between 64.5 mm and 115.5 mm. Mayurbhanj district led the state in terms of rainfall, with its stations occupying the top four positions.

Baripada in Mayurbhanj received the highest rainfall of 135.0 mm, followed by Chandua at 130.0 mm, Suliapada at 128.0 mm, and Shamakhunta at 125.0 mm. Other districts that received significant rainfall include Dhenkanal, where Gondia recorded 110.0 mm and Kankadahad received 105.0 mm. Angul’s Chhendipada also recorded 95.0 mm of rainfall.

The fresh spell of heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected to bring relief to agricultural activities across the state. However, it may also cause temporary waterlogging in low-lying and urban areas. The IMD has urged people to remain cautious of possible inundation in vulnerable locations.

The IMD has indicated that rainfall activity is likely to continue in parts of Odisha over the next few days. People in the affected districts have been advised to take necessary precautions.

The southwest monsoon has turned active across Odisha, triggering heavy showers in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack on Tuesday morning. According to the regional weather centre, rainfall is expected to intensify further starting tomorrow.
