Bhubaneswar: Several coastal districts of Odisha received heavy to very heavy rainfall during the past 21 hours ending at 5:30 am on Tuesday, as per the latest data from the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
The intense downpour is attributed to the influence of a deep depression over the Bay of Bengal.
According to the IMD, Baleshwar recorded the highest rainfall of 166.5 mm, making it the worst-affected area among the monitored stations. Other significant rainfall figures include Puri with 120.6 mm, Paradeep with 80.3 mm, and Chandbali with 55.2 mm.
The heavy rainfall has already prompted precautionary measures, including the closure of all schools and Anganwadi centres in districts such as Balasore, Bhadrak, Mayurbhanj, and Sambalpur.
Strong winds and rough sea conditions with high waves were also reported along the coast, adding to the weather-related challenges.
The IMD has warned of continued heavy to very heavy rainfall in parts of the state over the next 24 hours. The IMD has urged residents to stay indoors, avoid travel through waterlogged zones, and follow official updates. Fishermen have been strictly advised not to venture into the sea.
