Bhubaneswar: Rainfall triggered by the Low Pressure Area over coastal Odisha and neighbourhood and strong monsoon flow was witnessed across the State in the last 24 hours.
Above 60mm rainfall was recorded at around four places in Khordha district till 8.30 am today. Similarly, twin Cities Bhubaneswar and Cuttack are experiencing heavy rainfall.
The Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre stated that it may result in temporary water logging in low lying areas and occasional reduction of visibility causing traffic congestion in urban areas.
The heavy rainfall may trigger landslides/mudslides in vulnerable hilly areas and some damages to Kutcha road, added the weather agency.
Due to heavy rainfall in the upper catchment areas in Andhra Pradesh, the water level of Sileru and Sabari river is rising inundating several areas in Malkangiri district of Odisha.
The Puruna Basti in Motu village has been worst affected. More than 15 houses in the area are now completely submerged in floodwaters. People are fleeing to higher ground with their belongings.
In view of this, the Collector and SP visited the area today and held a discussion with the local police and administration. The administration is paying close attention to the flood situation, said Collector Vishal Singh.
