Bhubaneswar: All government and private schools in Kendrapara district will remain closed on Monday as a precautionary measure amid heavy rain forecast, district administration announced.
The closure will apply to students from Class 1 to Class 12 in both government and private schools across the district.
Kendrapara district has been put on high alert after the India Meteorological Department issued a red warning for the area in view of a depression over the northwest Bay of Bengal.
The system is expected to intensify further and bring heavy to very heavy rainfall with extremely heavy rain at one or two places over the district on July 27.
The decision has been taken for the safety of students and staff. District authorities have advised parents and school managements to ensure students stay indoors and avoid low-lying and waterlogged areas during the period of intense rainfall.
The IMD has warned of possible waterlogging, disruption in traffic and reduction in visibility due to the heavy downpour. Administration and emergency teams have been asked to remain on alert to respond to any situation arising out of the weather.
