Bhubaneswar: Heavy to very heavy rain/thundershowers is likely to pound several areas of Odisha on Tuesday under the influence of a fresh low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal, the regional office of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Bhubaneswar warned today. It has issued a yellow alert for heavy rain in 15 districts of the state.
Stating that the wet weather is likely to continue till September 27, the IMD forecast 70 mm to 110 mm rainfall in Ganjam, Gajapati, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Nabarangpur, Nuapada, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapara and Jajpur on Tuesday.
Thunderstorm with lightning is also very likely to occur at isolated places in the districts of Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Nayagarh, Khurda, and Puri, the IMD added.
People have been advised to keep a watch on the weather and remain indoors during the rain spells to avoid lightning strikes.
Meanwhile, the flood situation in Balasore district has improved with the water level in the Subarnarekha River subsiding. However, several areas in the district remain submerged in water in Kuchirgadi Panchayat, Kushuda, Gabgaon, and Manunagar. Some areas in Rasalpul in Bhograi block are still cut off from the outside world.
