Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department has issued a warning for isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall with extremely heavy rainfall and thunderstorm activity accompanied by lightning over various districts of Odisha till June 20.
Currently, the Southwest Monsoon has advanced over several parts of North Arabian Sea, Gujarat, Vidarbha, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Jharkhand, Gangetic West Bengal, and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal. The Northern Limit of Monsoon passes through specific geographical coordinates, indicating its progression.
A low-pressure area persists over Southwest Bangladesh and adjoining Gangetic West Bengal, with an associated upper air cyclonic circulation extending up to 7.6 km above mean sea level. This system is likely to move slowly west-northwestwards and become more marked over Gangetic West Bengal and neighbourhood during the next 24 hours.
Residents are advised to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions to mitigate the impact of heavy rainfall and thunderstorms. The meteorological department will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates accordingly.
