Heavy Rainfall Lashes Parts of Odisha; Puri Records Highest 108 MM

Bhubaneswar: Several parts of Odisha experienced heavy to very heavy rainfall during the past 24 hours, even as Puri district recorded the highest amount of precipitation in the state.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Kakatpur in Puri district received the maximum rainfall of 108 mm. This was followed by Deogaon in Jharsuguda with 100 mm, Banaigarh in Sundargarh with 97 mm, and Kutra in Sundargarh with 95 mm. Other places that recorded significant rainfall include Akhuapada in Bhadrak (78.8 mm), Jamankira in Sambalpur (73.4 mm), and several stations in Mayurbhanj, Balasore, and Angul districts.

The state as a whole recorded an average rainfall of 19.5 mm in the last 24 hours against the normal of 16.6 mm, registering a 17 per cent excess departure.

While northern and coastal districts received good rainfall, some interior districts such as Boudh, Kandhamal, and Gajapati witnessed comparatively lower precipitation.
