Bhubaneswar: A low-pressure system has developed over the Bay of Bengal, and the formation of low-pressure area is expected to lead to heavy downpours in several parts of Odisha.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has reported the formation of a low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal, specifically in the west central and adjoining northwest region, off the coast of north Andhra Pradesh and south Odisha. This development occurred at 8:30 AM Indian Standard Time (IST) on September 12, 2025.
“Under the influence of the upper air cyclonic circulation over west central & adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal off north Andhra Pradesh and south Odisha coast, a low-pressure area has formed over the same region at 0830 hrs IST of today, the 12th September, 2025,” read the statement issued by the IMD.
The upper air cyclonic circulation associated with the low-pressure system extends up to a height of approximately 5.8 kilometers above mean sea level, with a southward tilt as altitude increases. According to the IMD, this system is expected to move in a west-northwest direction over the next two days, traversing south Odisha, neighbouring areas of north Andhra Pradesh, and south Chhattisgarh.
