Sambalpur: The Hirakud Dam authorities have closed two sluice gates of the reservoir on Friday.
According to the 9 am update, eight gates will remain open for release of floodwater — five on the left spillway and three on the right. The reservoir level is on the rise.
At 9 am, the water level stood at 624.25 feet. The average inflow into the reservoir was recorded at 2,05,974 cusecs, while the average outflow was 1,94,927 cusecs. Of the total outflow, 1,59,970 cusecs is being discharged through the spillway and 32,016 cusecs through the power channel. Apart from this, 229 cusecs is being used for industrial purposes and 2,712 cusecs is being released into canals.
In the downstream, the water flow at Khairmal was recorded at 3,05,000 cusecs, at Barmul 3,62,500 cusecs and at Mundali 5,11,258 cusecs.
