Bhubaneswar: The Hirakud Dam authorities have closed four gates to release excess water, following a decrease in rainfall in the upstream areas. Currently, water is being discharged through eight gates. The excess water has now reached the Mundali barrage in Cuttack.
The current water level at Hirakud stands at 626.60 feet. According to officials, the heavy release of water from Hirakud Dam, combined with upstream rainfall, has caused the water level to rise at Mundali, with a discharge of 6,08,000 cusecs.
The Engineer-in-Chief has reviewed the situation and assured that while some low-lying areas may be affected, the water level is expected to decrease gradually, restoring normalcy soon. Efforts are being made to manage the water flow and minimise the impact on affected areas.
