Bhubaneswar: The authorities at the Hirakud Dam have opened 4 more gates, bringing the total number of gates open to 12.

According to reports, this decision to open four more gates was taken due to heavy rainfall in the upper catchment area, which led to a significant increase in water inflow into the reservoir.

Currently, 8 gates on the left bank and 4 gates on the right bank are open, releasing excess water from the reservoir. The dam is receiving 2,05,426 cusecs of water per second, while 1,67,307 cusecs of water per second are being released through the gates. Due to the increased inflow, the water level in the reservoir has reached 629.97 feet.

The dam authorities are closely monitoring the situation and taking necessary measures to ensure the safety of the dam and surrounding areas. The gates will continue to be opened as needed to maintain a safe water level in the reservoir.
