Bhubaneswar: With water flow increasing in the Mahanadi river, the Hirakud Dam authorities have opened three more gates of the dam to release excess water.
At present, water is being discharged through eight gates of the dam. Of the eight open gates, five are on the left side and three on the right side. The current reservoir water level stands at 629.56 feet.
According to the dam authorities, gates are being opened keeping in view the reservoir water level and the inflow from the upper catchment area. With the number of gates being increased at once, the administration is also closely monitoring the water flow in the downstream of Mahanadi.
People living in the riverside and low-lying areas have been advised to remain alert and follow updates regarding the water level and further instructions from the administration.
Meanwhile, all three gates of the Indravati reservoir have been closed. However, one gate of the Muran dam remains open for discharge of water.
