Sambalpur: The Hirakud Dam authorities on Sunday opened two more sluice gates, taking the total number of gates open to 28, as the average inflow into the reservoir remained high at around 4.95 lakh cusecs.
According to the latest Hirakud reservoir update issued at 3 pm, the reservoir water level stood at 628.33 feet, while the average inflow was recorded at 4,95,350 cusecs. The average outflow stood at 4,44,526 cusecs.
With the opening of the two additional gates, 19 sluice gates on the left side and nine on the right side are now open.
The reservoir was releasing water through the spillway, power channel, industrial use and canals. The average spillway discharge was recorded at 4,05,956 cusecs, while 34,161 cusecs was being released through the power channel.
The total canal discharge stood at 4,188 cusecs, including 3,583 cusecs through the BMC, 500 cusecs through the SMC and 105 cusecs through the SBP distributary.
The present outflow from the reservoir was reported at 4,95,773 cusecs, while the present spillway discharge stood at 4,56,792 cusecs.
Downstream, the discharge at Mundali was recorded at 4,58,415 cusecs. The gauge discharge was 5,98,000 cusecs at Barmul and 6,62,000 cusecs at Khairmal. Patharla recorded a discharge of 2,63,173 cusecs, while the discharge at Belgaon stood at 1,20,000 cusecs.
The Hirakud reservoir authorities are closely monitoring the inflow, outflow and downstream discharge levels amid the continued release of water from the dam.
