Phulbani: The Special Vigilance Court, Phulbani today sentenced a former headmaster (HM) of an upper primary school in Kandhamal district and two others to undergo four years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) after convicting them for embezzlement of funds meant for the construction of new school building.
The court has further slapped a fine of Rs 10,000 on each of the convicts.
According to public prosecutor V V Ramdas, in 2009-10 an amount of Rs 9,96,000 was sanctioned under Kandhamal district Sarva Sikshya Abhiyan for the construction of a new school building of Ghatital upper primary school in Khajuripada block of Kandhamal.
The headmaster of the school Kishore Kumar Das, president of the school Subindra Kanhar, and TC of DPEP Pruthviraj Lenka jointly misappropriated Rs 8,96,000 out of the Rs 9,96,000.
Berhampur Vigilance police station had registered a case in this connection.
The Special Vigilance Court, Phulbani after convicting the three in the case sentenced them to undergo four years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on each of them.
