Holi 2026: How To Protect Your Skin While Playing With Colors

Holi 2026

Bhubaneswar: The festival of colors is here, and streets across the country are ready to come alive with laughter, music, and vibrant hues. But while Holi promises fun, dermatologists warn that careless celebration can lead to skin irritation, dryness, and allergies.

To enjoy the festival safely, simple precautions can help protect the skin from harm. Before stepping out, apply natural oils like coconut or almond oil all over the body to create a protective layer.

Using a broad-spectrum sunscreen is equally important to prevent sun damage, even if the sky is cloudy.

Choosing organic or herbal colors over synthetic ones reduces the risk of chemical reactions. Lightweight, full-coverage cotton clothing can protect sensitive areas and minimise direct contact with colors.

After playing, wash off colors gently using mild soap and lukewarm water. Avoid scrubbing, as it can damage the skin’s natural barrier. Applying a soothing moisturiser or aloe vera gel helps restore hydration and prevent dryness.

Staying hydrated throughout the day also contributes to healthy skin, as it prevents dryness caused by water and color exposure.

By following these simple steps—using protective oils, choosing safe colors, covering the body, and hydrating—everyone can celebrate Holi fully without compromising skin health. The festival can remain colorful, joyful, and safe for all.
