Mayurbhanj: A home guard has been arrested for allegedly raping a minor girl at Gulata village Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district. The accused was posted at Jamda police station near the Odisha-Jharkhand border.
According to reports, home guard Debendra Patra (35) allegedly raped a 15-year-old girl from Jharkhand on October 11 on the pretext of curing her of the adverse effects of ‘black magic’. The girl’s parents had brought her to Gulata village from Jharkhand. The self-styled ‘witch doctor’ took the minor girl to a secluded place on the night of October 11 on the pretext of curing her. However, he raped her.
After the heinous act, the accused home guard allegedly threatened the girl with dire consequences if she revealed the incident to anybody. However, the girl told her parents about her miseries and they lodged a complaint at the Jamda police station.
Meanwhile, Mayurbhanj SP B Gangadhar said that the accused has been booked under various Sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and further investigation into the incident is on.
