Bhubaneswar: Hot and humid weather prevailed over coastal Odisha on Thursday morning, with residents of Bhubaneswar and Puri waking up to sticky conditions and elevated heat indices.
As per IMD data, Bhubaneswar recorded a temperature of 30.2°C with humidity at 78 per cent at 8:30 am. The heat index stood at 38°C, placing the city under hot and humid conditions. In Puri, the temperature was higher at 32.6°C, accompanied by 81 per cent humidity at 8:30 am. The heat index in the coastal town soared to a sweltering 47°C, underscoring the uncomfortable weather.
Meteorological observations indicate that the low-pressure system has moved far away from Odisha. As a result, hot and humid conditions are likely to continue over coastal Odisha, with high humidity and uncomfortable heat expected during the day.
The IMD has advised people, especially the elderly, children and those with health concerns, to stay hydrated, avoid prolonged exposure to the sun during peak hours, and take necessary precautions against heat-related discomfort.
