Bhubaneswar: Unbearable sweltering heat is being felt across coastal Odisha due to successive weak monsoon currents over the past few days in the state.
According to the India Meteorological Department, hot and humid conditions prevailed over the state on Tuesday, with the heat index soaring as high as 50°C in several coastal places.
According to IMD’s data recorded at 11.30 am, high humidity has added to the discomfort, making people feel the heat more. Puri recorded the highest temperature at 35.4°C with 66% humidity, taking the heat index to a scorching 50°C.
Baleshwar recorded 33.6°C with 71% humidity and a heat index of 46°C, followed by Chandbali at 34.2°C with 64% humidity and a heat index of 45°C. The capital city Bhubaneswar recorded 33.8°C with 66% humidity, with the heat index at 44°C. Similarly, Gopalpur recorded 35.2°C with 53% humidity and a heat index of 42°C, while Paradeep recorded 33.4°C with 61% humidity and a heat index of 41°C.
The high humidity level is causing the heat to feel more intense than the actual temperature, leading to uncomfortable conditions for the residents of Coastal Odisha.
