Bhubaneswar: A PhD scholar of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bhubaneswar died on Sunday after allegedly falling from the sixth floor of a hostel building inside the campus.
The deceased has been identified as Tanikonda Nishant Kumar, a research scholar from the Electrical Engineering department. He was originally from Andhra Pradesh.
According to reports, security personnel found him critically injured after the fall and immediately shifted him to the institute’s hospital for emergency treatment. Considering his condition, doctors later advised shifting him to a private hospital for advanced care. He was transported in an ambulance, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
Following the incident, Jatni Police reached the campus and initiated an investigation to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the fall. The exact cause of the incident is yet to be determined.
