Balasore: In a major crackdown on illegal firecracker sales, Simulia police on Tuesday night seized firecrackers worth around ₹3 lakh from Ada Bazar in Balasore district.
Acting on a tip-off, Simulia IIC Shravan Kumar Maharana led a late-night raid in the market area, where S.K. Karim was found selling firecrackers in a residential locality, allegedly violating government safety regulations.
The police team detained Karim and confiscated a large cache of firecrackers stored for sale without authorization. The raid was conducted by a team comprising SI Kshirod Kumar Sahu, ASI Bishwajit Sethi, and other police personnel.
Police sources said that strict action will be taken against those involved in the illegal storage and sale of firecrackers, especially ahead of the festive season when such activities often pose significant fire hazards in residential areas.
