Bhubaneswar: Institute of Life Sciences, Bhubaneswar being recognized as a standalone Institute to organize Jan Bhagidari events contributing to the spirit of G20.ILS, Bhubaneswar, has been organizing a series of events, from 1st April to 25th April 2023, under the leadership of Prof Pulok K Mukherjee, Director, ILS.
These include webinar series, workshops, seminars and other events as precursor events to raise awareness and imbibe the spirit of participation and ownership of India’s G20 presidency among the public and encourage youths, especially women to participate in the “Jan Bhagidari” events to make the G20 presidency a great success.
ILS has organized a Seminar today at its Auditorium on the theme “Bioresources for Tribal Health and Wellbeing-Perspectives of Odisha” to bring all groups working in different aspects of tribal health, anthropology, public health and bioresources to present their ideas and concepts on how to promote tribal health and wellbeing. Prof. Pulok Mukherjee, Director in his inaugural address highlighted the measures and strategies that need to be adapted including the technological and research interventions required to promote tribal health and wellbeing.
Prof. Sabita Acharya, VC UtkalUniversity, MrMadhab Mishra, Commissioner of Customs, Bhubaneswar Zone address on several issues in mitigating basic issues of the tribal health and wellbeing through bio resources. The seminar was participated by experts and scientists from different institutions, Universities and NGOs. The participants have suggested long-term action plans and priority research areas, which will be addressed by the research institutions in a coordinated and collaborative manner with support from the government.
Sambit Tripathy, CEO, Livelihood Alternative, Dr Vidya Das, Jt.Director, Agragamee, Prof. MrutyunjaySuar, Director General R&D, KIIT University, Dr Shridhar M Kadam, Director, IPH, Bhubaneswar, ProfPrasanna K PatraUtkal University, Dr AnsumanPanigrahi, Scientist, RMRC, Dr JK Sundaray, Scientist, CIFA, Dr A. K. Panda, CARI, Bhubaneswar and DrMamataMohapatra Scientist, IMMT were among the speakers who gave their views and some of the scientists of ILS have also mentioned about the ILS activities towards addressing the fundamental issues in tribal areas.
The invited speakers focused onto have a mindset to promote tribal traditional knowledge and cultural practices and emphasized working closely with them to introduce them to the latest technologies without hampering their local environment, and traditional practices and maintaining the indigenous traditions, culture, biodiversity and environment.
