Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall in several districts of Odisha tomorrow ahead of the impending Cyclone Montha.

According to the IMD, isolated places in Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangapur, Kalahandi, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, and Kandhamal districts are likely to experience heavy rainfall, with amounts ranging from 7 to 20 cm tomorrow.

Besides, heavy rainfall (7 to 11cm) is very likely to occur at isolated places in the districts of Nuapada, Balangir, Boudh, Nayagarh, Khurda, Puri, Cuttack, Kendrapada and Jagatsinghpur.

For October 29, the IMD has issued red warning to Malakangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajpati and Ganjam districts and orange warning to Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nayagarh, Khorda and Puri.

Cyclone Montha is expected to intensify into a severe cyclonic storm by October 28 and make landfall near Kakinada in Andhra Pradesh. The storm is likely to bring strong winds, heavy rainfall, and coastal flooding to several districts in Odisha.

The IMD has issued a red alert for several districts in Odisha, including Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati, and Ganjam. The state government is preparing relief measures to mitigate the impact of the cyclone.

Residents in the affected areas are advised to stay indoors and avoid traveling to areas prone to cyclone. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea until October 29. The Odisha government has also deployed disaster response teams to vulnerable areas and is closely monitoring the situation.
