Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department has predicted heavy rainfall in three districts and thunderstorms in 17 others.
According to the forecast, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, and Sundergarh districts are likely to experience heavy rainfall today. On the other hand, thunderstorms accompanied by rain and wind speeds of 30-40 km/h are expected in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapati districts.
Residents are advised to stay indoors and avoid travelling unless necessary.
The weather department has also urged fishermen to exercise caution and avoid venturing into the sea due to rough sea conditions.
.According to sources, Odisha has experienced varied rainfall patterns across the state. While some districts have received excess rainfall, others are facing a deficit.
The districts with excess rainfall include Mayurbhanj and Keonjhar, both with 49% excess rainfall, followed closely by Deogarh with 48% excess rainfall. Boudh has seen 38% excess rainfall, while Jharsuguda and Sonepur have both recorded 31% excess rainfall. Sambalpur has also experienced excess rainfall, with a 24% surplus.
On the other hand, four districts are facing rainfall deficits. Puri is experiencing the largest deficit at 34%, followed by Ganjam with a 24% deficit. Kalahandi has a 20% deficit, and Gajapati is facing a relatively minor deficit of 3%.
