IMD Forecasts Moderate Thunderstorms With Lightning & Heavy Rain In Odisha For Next 3 Days

Bhubaneswar: Moderate thunderstorm activity with lightning, gusty winds, hail, and heavy rain are likely in several Odisha districts from Tuesday to Thursday, the regional center of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted in its mid-day bulletin on Monday.

The weather office has advised people to keep a watch on the weather and take safe shelter during thunderstorm activity to protect from lightning and follow traffic advisories in urban areas.

Detailed forecast and warning for the next five days:

Day 1 (Valid up to 0830 hrs IST of 19.03.2024)

Light to moderate rain or thunderstorms are very likely to occur at many places in north interior Odisha, Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapada, Jajpur, Cuttack, and a few places over the rest of the districts of Odisha.

Yellow Warning (To be updated)

Thunderstorms with lightning and gusty surface wind speeds reaching 30-40 kmph are very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, and Dhenkanal. Also, thunderstorms with lightning are very likely at one or two places in Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Khurdha, Puri, Nayagarh, Angul, Deogarh, Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sonepur, and Boudh.

Day 2 (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 19.03.2024 to 0830 hrs IST of 20.03.2024)

Light to moderate rain or thunderstorms are very likely in most places in several Odisha districts.

Orange Warning (Be Prepared): Thunderstorms with lightning, gusty surface wind speed reaching 45-55 kmph, and hail are very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Bolangir, Sonepur, Kalahandi, Boudh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Nayagarh, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, and Jajpur. Also, thunderstorms with lightning and heavy rainfall (7cm to 11cm) at one or two places are likely in Cuttack, Ganjam, Nayagarh, Kandhamal, Khurda, and Dhenkanal.

Yellow Warning (To be updated): Thunderstorms with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph are very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Gajapati, Sundargarh, Deogarh and thunderstorm with lightning very likely to occur at one or two places over the rest districts of Odisha.

Day 3 (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 20.03.2024 to 0830 hrs IST of 21.03.2024)

Light to moderate rain or thunderstorms are very likely to occur at most places over the districts of coastal Odisha, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Koraput, Kalahandi, at many places over the districts of Kalahandi, Nabarangpur, Boudh, Dhenkanal, Angul, and a few places over the rest districts of Odisha. Orange Warning (Be Prepared)

Thunderstorms with lightning and gusty surface wind speeds reaching 40-50 kmph are very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Khurda, Nayagarh, Puri, Khordha, Kandhamal, Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, and Koraput. Also, heavy rainfall (7cm to 11cm) is likely in Ganjam, Puri, Rayagada, Koraput, and Gajapati.

Yellow Warning (To be updated): Thunderstorms with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph are very likely to occur at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Mayurbhanj, Dhenkanal, Boudh, Malkangiri, Nabarangpur, and Keonjhar.

Day 4 (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 21.03.2024 to 0830 hrs IST of 22.03.2024)

Light rain or thunderstorms are likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of north coastal Odisha, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Dhenkanal, Khurda, and Nayagarh, and dry weather is likely to prevail over the remaining districts of Odisha.

Day 5 (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 22.03.2024 to 0830 hrs IST of 23.03.2024)

Light rain or thunderstorms are likely to occur at two places in Odisha, including Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Koraput, Rayagada, and Nabarangpur, and dry weather is likely to prevail over the remaining districts of Odisha.
