Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department has issued an ‘Alert’ for moderate thunderstorms in parts of Odisha on Sunday, July 5, 2026.According to the IMD, moderate thunderstorms and light thunderstorms with wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph are very likely to occur at a few places over the next three hours.
The districts under the alert are Bhadrak, Cuttack including Cuttack city, Jagatsinghpur, Jajpur, Kandhamal, Kendrapara, Keonjhar, Khordha including Bhubaneswar city, and Nuapada. The alert covers an area of approximately 36,087 sq km.
The IMD has advised residents in the affected districts to stay cautious, avoid open areas and shelter under safe structures during thunderstorms. People have also been asked to keep a watch on weather updates as conditions may worsen.
The warning comes as the state continues to witness rain due to a well-marked low pressure system over the Bay of Bengal.
