Bhubaneswar: Several districts of Odisha are likely to experience thunderstorms with lightning and light to moderate rain in the next three hours, predicted the regional center of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Bhubaneswar in a now cast issued on Tuesday morning. The districts that are likely to experience thunderstorms and rain are Angul, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Keonjhar, Bhadrak, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack (including Cuttack city), and Sundargarh.
Meanwhile, the MeT issued an orange warning for rain in 14 districts of Odisha on Tuesday. The state is likely to experience Kalbaisakhi for two days starting today.
The weather office predicted that thunderstorms with lightning and hail accompanied by gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph are very likely to occur at one or two places in Boudh, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, Balangir, Rayagada, Nabarangpur, Angul, Nayagarh and Dhenkanal. Similarly, thunderstorms with lightning and heavy rainfall are likely to occur at one or two places in Dhenkanal, Cuttack, Nayagarh, Kandhamal, Ganjam, and Khurda.
The weather department has also issued a yellow warning for a few districts of Odisha. Thundershowers with lightning accompanied by gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph are very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Gajapati, Deogarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Koraput, Malkangiri, Sonepur, and Sambalpur.
The weather office has advised people to keep a watch on the weather and accordingly move to safer places to avoid lightning strikes.
