Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an Orange warning for 11 districts in Odisha, predicting moderate thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, surface wind speeds reaching 40–50 kmph, and light to moderate rainfall over the next three hours.
The districts under the Orange Warning include Kandhamal, Ganjam, Rayagada, Kalahandi, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Angul, Bhadrak, Balasore, Jajpur, and Koraput.
According to the IMD’s Nowcast issued at 5:10 pm, the weather conditions are likely to result in minor damage to loose or unsecured structures, banana plantations, and some standing crops.
In addition, a Yellow warning has been issued for six other districts, namely Gajapati, Nayagarh, Khordha, Ganjam, Cuttack, and Malkangiri, predicting light to moderate thunderstorms with gusty winds reaching 30–40 kmph, lightning, and light to moderate rainfall during the same period.
The IMD has urged residents in the affected areas to remain alert and take shelter in safe places as a precautionary measure against possible lightning strikes and adverse weather conditions.
