IMD Issues Orange Warning For Intense Heatwave For 21 Odisha Districts

Bhubaneswar: The regional office of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) here has issued a yellow warning for an intense heatwave in 16 districts of Odisha due to the prevailing northwesterly/ westerly dry air and high solar insolation. It has warned that the day temperatures (maximum temperatures) are very likely to rise by 2°C to 3°C at many places in Odisha during the next 48 hours.

Weather forecast and warning for districts of Odisha:

Day 1 (Valid up to 0830 hrs IST of 18.04.2024)

Dry weather is very likely to prevail over the districts of Odisha.

YELLOW WARNING: (BE UPDATED) Heatwave conditions are very likely to prevail at one or two places in Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Bhadrak, Balasore, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Khurda, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Nayagarh, Kandhamal, Koraput, Malkangiri, Angul, Boudh, Sonepur, Bolangir, Jharsuguda, Kalahandi, and Bargarh. The maximum temperature (day temperature) is likely to be more than 40°C at many places in Odisha during the next three days. People are advised to take precautionary measures while going outside during the time between 11.00 am and 3.00 pm.

Day 2 (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 18.04.2024 to 0830 hrs IST of 19.04.2024)

Dry weather is very likely to prevail over the districts of Odisha.

ORANGE WARNING (BE PREPARED): Heatwave to severe heatwave conditions are very likely to prevail at one or two places in Mayurbhanj, Nuapada, Gajapati, and Nayagarh.

YELLOW WARNING: (BE UPDATED) Heatwave conditions are very likely to prevail at one or two places in Keonjhar, Bhadrak, Balasore, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Khurda, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Kandhamal, Koraput, Malkangiri, Angul, Boudh, Jharsuguda, Kalahandi, and Bargarh.

Day 3 (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 19.04.2024 to 0830 hrs IST of 20.04.2024)

Dry weather is very likely to prevail over the districts of Odisha.

ORANGE WARNING (BE PREPARED): Heatwave to severe heatwave conditions are very likely to prevail at one or two places in Mayurbhanj, Nuapada, Gajapati, and Nayagarh.

YELLOW WARNING: (BE UPDATED) Heatwave conditions are very likely to prevail at one or two places in Keonjhar, Dhenkanal, Boudh, Sonepur, Bolangir, Kalahandi, Angul, Jharsuguda, and Sundargarh.

Day 4 (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 20.04.2024 to 0830 hrs IST of 21.04.2024)

Light rain/thundershower is very likely to occur at one or two places in Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Rayagada, Gajapati, and Ganjam and dry weather is very likely to prevail over the remaining districts of Odisha.

YELLOW WARNING: (BE UPDATED) Heatwave conditions are very likely to prevail at one or two places in Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Dhenkanal, Nayagarh, Boudh, Sonepur, Bolangir, Angul, Jharsuguda, and Sundargarh. Thunderstorms with lightning accompanied by gusty surface wind speeds reaching 30-40 KMPH are very likely to occur at one or two places in Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Rayagada, Gajapati, and Ganjam.

Day 5 (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 21.04.2024 to 0830 hrs IST of 22.04.2024)

Light rain/thundershower is very likely to occur at one or two places in Malkangiri, Koraput, Nawarangpur, Kalahandi, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, Keonjhar, and Mayurbhanj and dry weather is very likely to prevail over the remaining districts of Odisha.

YELLOW WARNING: (BE UPDATED) Heatwave conditions are very likely to prevail at one or two places in Keonjhar, Dhenkanal, Nayagarh, Boudh, Sonepur, Bolangir, Kalahandi, Angul, Jharsuguda, and Sundargarh. Hot and humid weather conditions are very likely to prevail at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh.

Thunderstorm with lightning accompanied by gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 KMPH is very likely to occur at one or two places in Malkangiri, Koraput, Nawarangpur, Kalahandi, Rayagada, Gajapati, and Ganjam.

Day 6 (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 22.04.2024 to 0830 hrs IST of 23.04.2024)

Light to moderate rain/thundershower is very likely to occur at one or two places in Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Bolangir, Nuapada, Sonepur, Boudh, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, Deogarh, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, and Mayurbhanj and dry weather is very likely to prevail over the rest districts of Odisha.

Day 7 (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 23.04.2024 to 0830 hrs IST of 24.04.2024)

Light to moderate rain/thundershower is very likely to occur at one or two places in Ganjam, Gajapati, Nayagarh, Kalahandi, Rayagada, Nabarangpur, Koraput, Malkangiri, Nuapada, and Bolangir and dry weather is very likely to prevail over the remaining districts of Odisha.
