IMD Issues Red Alert For Heavy Rain In 10 Odisha Districts Today

Bhubaneswar: The deep depression centered over west-central and adjoining north-west Bay of Bengal will weaken to a well-marked low-pressure by Tuesday evening, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said today. It is heading towards Chhattisgarh. Several areas of Odisha are likely to receive heavy rain under the influence of the low pressure.

Squally weather with wind speed reaching 55-65 kmph gusting to 75 kmph is likely to continue till Tuesday noon. It is likely to decrease, gradually becoming 45-55 kmph gusting to 65 kmph by evening. Similarly, Squally weather with wind speed is likely to become 55-65 kmph gusting to 75 kmph by noon and decrease gradually thereafter becoming 45-55 kmph gusting to 65 kmph by evening, the IMD said.

The IMD has issued a red alert for heavy rain in ten districts of Odisha and said heavy to very heavy rain (7 to 20cm) is likely in a few places with isolated extremely heavy rainfall  in Koraput, Malkangiri, Nabarangpur, Ganjam, Kandhamal, Nayagarh, Khurda, Puri, Balangir, and Boudh.

Heavy to very heavy rain (7 to 20cm) may occur at isolated places in Cuttack, Angul, Dhenkanal, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada, Sonepur, Bargarh, Nuapada, Kalahandi, Rayagada, Sambalpur, and Gajapati, where an orange warning has been sounded.

Odisha will experience a wet weather till Wednesday, the weather office said.

Meanwhile, Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) Deoranjan Kumar Singh said that there is no threat of flood in Odisha. He said that Malkangiri and Kalimela blocks are more affected due to incessant heavy rains. A total of 504 people have been rescued and sheltered in four relief camps.
