IMD Predicts Fresh Low Pressure Over Bay Of Bengal On Aug 29

Bhubaneswar: The upper air cyclonic circulation over south Bangladesh and adjoining Gangetic West Bengal now lies over northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining West Bengal-North Odisha coasts, extending between 3.1 and 5.8 km above mean sea level tilting south-westwards with height, the IMD said on Wednesday.

Under its influence, a low pressure area is likely to form over the same region around August 29, 2026.The IMD has forecast rain in Odisha over the next three days and issued colour-coded warnings.

For August 27, an orange warning for heavy to very heavy rainfall at one or two places has been issued for Balasore and Mayurbhanj districts. Yellow warning for heavy rainfall has been issued for Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Sundargarh, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Nuapada, Kalahandi, Rayagada, Koraput and Gajapati.

For August 28, orange warning for heavy to very heavy rainfall at a few places has been issued for Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj. Yellow warning has been issued for Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Sundargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Subarnapur and Boudh.

For August 29, orange warning for heavy to very heavy rainfall has been issued for Balasore, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj. Yellow warning for heavy rainfall has been issued for Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Subarnapur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Nabarangpur, Khordha and Nayagarh.

The IMD has warned that strong winds may damage plantations, horticulture and standing crops, cause minor damage to loose and unsecured structures and kutcha houses. People have been advised to keep a watch on weather, stay indoors, close windows and doors, avoid travel if possible and not take shelter under trees.
