Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned that heatwave to severe heatwave condition is very likely to prevail in several parts of Odisha till May 31.
The weather agency has issued an ‘Orange’ warning predicting heat wave to severe heatwave condition is very likely to prevail in the districts of Boudh, Sonepur, Kandhamal, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, and Bolangir till May 31.
Similarly, heatwave condition is very likely to prevail in the districts of Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Bargarh, Deogarh, Nuapada, Kalahandi, and Angul during the same period, the weather agency added and has issued a ‘Yellow’ warning for these districts.
Besides, warm night conditions are very likely to prevail over the districts of Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, Sonepur, Bolangir, Kalahandi, Nuapada and Bargarh, the IMD has said.
Further, hot and humid weather conditions are very likely over the districts of Odisha Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Jajpur, Dhenkanal, Khordha, Nayagarh, Puri, Ganjam and Gajapati, the IMD added.
“Due to prevailing dry conditions in the state and strengthening of northwesterly dry winds in middle & upper level of the atmosphere, maximum temperature (Day Temperature) likely to be above normal by 3-5°C at many places over the districts of interior Odisha during next 2 to 3 days. Consequently, maximum temperature (Day Temperature) likely to be between 43 to 45°C at a few places over the districts of interior Odisha with isolated severe to heat wave conditions. Also due to absence of any major synoptic situation and presence of high humidity in lower level, hot & humid conditions very likely over coastal Odisha during next 3 days.
However establishment of a north[1]south trough like features towards 1st June, 2024 likely to trigger thunderstorms activity from 1st June 2024 onwards over some districts of coastal Odisha,” the weather agency said.
The weather agency has advised people to take precautionary measure while going outside during the peak hours of the day time between 11.00 AM-3.00 PM during next 3days.
