Bhubaneswar: Several areas across Odisha are likely to witness heavy rain from next two days under the influence of low-pressure area over Northwest Bay of Bengal off north Odisha coast.
The system now lies over Northwest Bay of Bengal adjoining north Odisha-Gangetic West Bengal coasts with the associated cyclonic circulation extending up to 7.6 km above mean sea level tilting south-westwards with height, a weather bulletin said.
On June 30, heavy rainfall is very likely to occur over the districts of Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Bargarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur. Similarly, the IMD predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall at one or two places over Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar districts.
On July 1, heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, and Sundargarh, the IMD stated.
In view of the weather agency’s prediction, the Odisha government has issued an advisory to all collectors to remain alert.
In a letter to the Collectors, the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) has asked districts under yellow warning to keep administrative machinery ready to face any eventuality.
In urban regions, low-lying areas may have water logging, and floods. Drains may be submerged . The ULBs have been asked to keep the drains and channels de-congested. The SRC directed the authorities to deploy adequate de-waterlogging pumps.
The Collectors should report to the SRC office in case of heavy to very heavy rainfall, the SRC stated.
They have been also asked to submit report on damage, if occurred due to heavy rainfall immediately for information of the government
