Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Saturday issued a yellow warning for heavy to very heavy rainfall to nine districts including Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sundargarh, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, Deogarh, Angul and Dhenkanal.
However, collectors of Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj and Sundargarh districts were alerted to remain prepared to meet any kind of eventuality.
Under the influence of the cyclonic circulation over the northwest and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal, a Low-Pressure area has formed over the northwest Bay of Bengal off the north Odisha coast.
For June 30, the regional weather office has issued a yellow warning for heavy to heavy rainfall to four districts including Keonjhar, Deogarh, Sundargarh and Jharsuguda.
The IMD has warned fishermen not to venture out into the sea and those out at sea to come back to the coast.
“Squally weather with gusty surface wind speed reaching 40 to 50 kmph is likely over the northwest Bay of Bengal off Odisha coast till 30th June 2024. Fishermen are advised not to venture into the sea off Odisha coast and northwest Bay of Bengal till 30th June 2024,” read the IMD alert.
