Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a ‘Yellow’ warning for hot and humid conditions expected to grip several Odisha districts over the next 24 hours.
The affected areas include Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapati, where oppressive weather is likely to prevail at isolated locations.
In contrast, light to moderate rain or thundershowers are forecast for the afternoon or evening hours in parts of Mayurbhanj, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Bolangir, Nuapada, Kalahandi, Nawarangapur, Koraput, Malkangiri, and Keonjhar. The remaining districts of Odisha are expected to experience dry weather during the same period.
The IMD has further cautioned that maximum temperatures across Odisha are likely to rise by 3-5°C over the next six to seven days, potentially intensifying heatwave conditions. Residents in the affected districts are advised to take precautions, stay hydrated, and avoid prolonged exposure to the sun.
The weather agency’s alert highlights the need for preparedness as Odisha braces for a challenging week of rising temperatures and mixed weather patterns.
