IMD Warns Of Heavy Rainfall Across Odisha In Next 48 Hours

Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department’s (IMD) Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar issued a midday weather bulletin on Friday, forecasting significant weather activity across Odisha for the next seven days.

Light to moderate rain or thundershowers are expected at most places in the state over the next 48 hours, with specific warnings for heavy rain and thunderstorms in several districts.

Weather Forecast for the Next 24 Hours

The IMD predicts light to moderate rain or thundershowers at most places across Odisha. In Bhubaneswar and its surrounding areas, a generally cloudy sky with one or two spells of rain or thunderstorms is expected. The maximum temperature is likely to hover around 33°C, with a minimum of 26°C.

A Yellow Warning (Be Aware) has been issued for the following:

Heavy Rain and Thunderstorms: Isolated areas in Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Boudh, Sonepur, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Bolangir, and Bargarh may experience heavy rain, thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds reaching 30-40 kmph.

Thunderstorms with Lightning: Similar conditions are expected at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, and Mayurbhanj.

Extended Forecast and Warnings

Day 1 (Until 8:30 AM IST, July 5, 2025): Light to moderate rain or thundershowers are likely at most places in Odisha.

Day 2 (July 5–6, 2025): The same weather pattern continues, with Yellow Warnings for heavy rain and thunderstorms in Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Boudh, Sonepur, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Bolangir, Bargarh, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, and for thunderstorms with lightning in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Angul, Dhenkanal, and Bargarh.

Day 3 (July 6–7, 2025): Light to moderate rain or thundershowers are expected at many places, with a Yellow Warning for heavy rain in Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sundargarh, Deogarh, Sambalpur, and Jharsuguda.

Day 4 (July 7–8, 2025): Similar conditions persist at many places, with a Yellow Warning for heavy rain in Sundargarh and Jharsuguda.

Day 5 and 6 (July 8–10, 2025): Light to moderate rain or thundershowers are expected at a few places across Odisha, with no specific warnings issued.

Day 7 (July 10–11, 2025): Light to moderate rain or thundershowers are likely at one or two places in the state.

Advisory for Farmers and Residents

Farmers are advised to take precautions due to the anticipated weather conditions, particularly in districts under the Yellow Warning. The IMD urges residents to stay vigilant, especially in areas prone to heavy rainfall, lightning, and gusty winds. Proper drainage and crop protection measures are recommended to mitigate potential damage.
