Malkangiri: Following incessant rain two bridges on national highway no. 326 near MV 96 and MV 90 on Tuesday have been submerged.
Till reports last came in, five-foot-high floodwater was flowing over both the bridges. As a result, road communication between Malkangiri and Motu has been snapped. Several vehicles remained stranded on both ends of the bridges causing inconvenience to the commuters.
Policemen from MV 79 and Kalimela police stations are keeping a close watch over the situation.
The situation has been caused due to incessant rain in Malkangiri district since Monday. There are reports of water levels gradually rising in several rivers of the district.
As per the Malkangiri District Rainfall Report of today shared by DEOC, Collectorate, Malkangiri, the district has recorded a total rainfall of 150.4 mm while the average rainfall recorded is 21.49 mm.
While Malkangiri has recorded 22.0 mm of rainfall, Mathili has recorded 54.0 mm, Khairput 42.0 mm, Chitrakonda 11.0 mm, Korukonda 15.0 mm, Kalimela 3.0 mm and Podia 3.4 mm.
