Bhubaneswar: Miscreants assaulted the independent nominee for Kalahandi Lok Sabha constituency Naresh Hianla when he was on his way to Bhawanipatna for election campaigning, on Tuesday.
According to sources, three miscreants waylaid Hianla near Karlapada when the latter going for election campaigning along with his two accomplices. When Hianla and his aides alighted from the car, miscreants attacked them with sticks before fleeing the scene. As a result, Hianla received serious injuries and was rushed to Bhawanipatna Hospital in a critical condition.
Though the reason behind the assault is yet to be ascertained, political rivalry is stated to be the reason behind the gruesome attack.
Based on a complaint, Karlapada police have begun a probe into the incident. Till the last report came in, police had failed to identify the miscreants who attacked the Kalahandi Lok Sabha candidate.
“I was attacked when I was on my way to Bhawanipatna. I don’t know them. I trust the police. They will nab the miscreants soon and find out the reasons behind the attack,” Hianla said.
