Baripada: Baripada town police in Mayurbhanj district have busted an inter-state gang of mobile phone thieves with the arrest of four persons and recovery of 75 stolen mobile phones.
Police have also seized Rs 4,125 in cash from the possession of the gang members.
The accused persons have been identified as Amrit Mahato (33), Pardesi Yadav (20), Bikram Kumar (19) all three hailing from Sahebganj district of Jharkhand and Smit Kumar (21) of Bhagalpur district of Bihar, police said.
Basing on a complaint filed by Rakesh Sutar, Sub Inspector Baripada Town police station, Sutar along with conducted a raid at Krishna Lodge and apprehended four persons and seized 75 smart phones of different makes.
During interrogation it was found that they belonged to Jharkhand and used to visit different weekly haats in Mayurbhanj district and commit theft of mobile phones by pick pockets, specially from the persons who use to keep the mobile phone on the shirt pockets.
They have been booked under section 303(2)/3(5) BNS while further investigation is underway.
