Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate Police in Bhubaneswar has successfully busted an inter-state gang of criminals hailing from Uttar Pradesh who had been involved in a series of incidents of snatching and looting for over a year in the city.
“Special Squad of Bhubaneswar UPD has been successful in nabbing an inter-state gang from UP involved in snatching and loot here for over a year,” informed Bhubaneswar DCP Prateek Singh briefing reporters here today.
The DCP said that the arrested four gang members hail from Samli in UP.
The gang is known as the Bawaria gang and is very notorious, the DCP added.
The age of the four accused persons who were arrested from a lodge ranges between 28-38 years Singh added
He said that the police have seized 16 gold chains weighing around 200 gms, two Pulsar motorcycles bearing registration number plates of Delhi and Driving Licences from the possession of the gang members.
“The members of this gang belong to a nomadic tribe and are highly skilled in committing, dacoity, snatching and loot. The gang used to visit here and leave after committing a series of snatchings. The gang used to frequently change places so it was difficult to nab them,” the DCP said.
He added that so far the police have been able to detect a total of 28 cases registered against them in the police districts of Cuttack, Cuttack (Rural), Bhadrak and Bhubaneswar.
