Sundargarh: Rajgangpur Police on Sunday busted an IPL betting racket operating in the area and arrested five persons involved in illegal betting activities.
Acting on credible inputs, the Superintendent of Police, Sundargarh, directed a special team to take swift action against illegal IPL satta operations. Accordingly, a team comprising SI R.K. Sethi, SI A. Behera, ASI P.K. Senapati, ASI H. Dhurua, and other police personnel was constituted under the supervision of senior officers.
Based on the operation plan, the team conducted a targeted raid in Rajgangpur and successfully uncovered the betting network. During the operation, five persons were apprehended while they were allegedly engaged in running the betting syndicate and collecting money from various individuals.
Police said the accused were operating an organised network facilitating illegal IPL betting activities in the region. In this connection, Rajgangpur PS Case No. 257 dated 03.05.2026 has been registered under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), OPG Act, and PROG Act. Investigation is currently underway.
During the raid, police seized Rs 6,00,000 in cash and froze bank account funds amounting to Rs 17,61,367. The total financial involvement of the racket is estimated at Rs 23,61,367. Five mobile phones allegedly used in the operation were also recovered from the accused.
Police further stated that efforts are on to identify other members of the network and establish wider linkages of the betting syndicate.
Sundargarh Police reiterated their commitment to strict action against illegal gambling activities and maintaining law and order in the district.
