Bhubaneswar: A mesmerizing video of Irrawaddy dolphins leaping in Asia’s largest brackish water lagoon, Chilika, has taken social media by storm.
The video, shared on X (formerly Twitter) by former Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (Wildlife) Susanta Nanda, has captivated viewers, leaving them in awe of the dolphins’ graceful leaps.
The footage highlights the dolphins’ agility and beauty as they leap above the water’s surface in an elegant display of energy.

In his post, Nanda emphasized that Chilika Lagoon remains home to the world’s largest congregation of Irrawaddy dolphins. The latest census results put the population in the lagoon at 159 dolphins.
According to reports, the annual dolphin census across Odisha’s coastal waters recorded a total of 710 dolphins, with significant numbers spotted in Bhitarkanika and Chilika Lake.
Chilika itself reported 174 dolphins, including 159 Irrawaddy dolphins and 15 humpback dolphins.
