Bhubaneswar: Panchu Behera, Assistant Engineer with the Irrigation Department, has been arrested by the Odisha Vigilance team for possessing disproportionate assets.
Behera, currently posted as SDO at DAHA Irrigation Sub-Division in Bhanjanagar in Ganjam, was found to have accumulated wealth beyond his known sources of income. The vigilance team conducted searches on his properties and seized assets including a multi-storeyed building in Berhampur, five plots, Rs 18.90 lakh cash, Rs 90 lakh deposits, 568gms gold, and heavy machinery worth Rs 94 lakh.
A case (No. 03/2026) has been registered against him under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 2018, and he will be produced before the Special Judge, Vigilance, Berhampur.
Further investigation is ongoing.
