Bhubaneswar: The International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) has denied any involvement in the recent untimely Rath Yatra of Mahaprabhu Lord Jagannath and his siblings in Rishikesh. In a statement, ISKCON Rishikesh clarified that it had no association or role in the Rath Yatra, which was organized by Madhuban Ashram, Rishikesh.
The Rath Yatra, which took place on October 7, started from Madhuban Ashram and ended at Triveni Ghat. However, the event drew criticism, with many devotees feeling insulted by the unconventional setup. Notably, the Rath was a four-wheeled vehicle without any wood or metal, differing from traditional Rath Yatra practices.
ISKCON emphasized that it follows a mutually agreed-upon schedule with Gajapati Maharaj and did not participate in the event. The organization had previously received warnings from the Gajapati Maharaja regarding its Rath Yatra practices, with the Gajapati expressing concerns over the deviation from traditional temple norms. A 100-page letter was submitted to ISKCON authorities, cautioning them against ignoring ritualistic traditions and threatening legal action if necessary.
