Jagatsinghpur: In a shocking incident, the body of a young woman was recovered from a moong bean field near Kathiapada under Sadar police limits in Jagatsinghpur district.
The deceased has been identified as Dolly alias Sasmita Das, daughter of Promod Das, a resident of Kathiapada village.
According to police sources, Sasmita was brutally murdered, and the family has lodged a complaint alleging murder. Sasmita had gotten engaged just three days ago. On Tuesday night, around 8 PM, she left home saying she was returning from a neighbour’s house in a while but never came back. When her family tried contacting her, her mobile phone was found switched off. Worried family members searched for her at relatives’ and friends’ houses throughout the night but could not trace her. On Wednesday evening, some locals who had gone to the field to harvest moong beans discovered the body of a young woman lying there and immediately informed the police.
Upon being informed, family members of Samita rushed to the spot and identified the body as that of Sasmita. The Jagatsinghpur Sadar police, along with a scientific investigation team and sniffer dogs, reached the crime scene and seized the body before sending for post-mortem.
The accused has been arrested from Jamshedpur, police officials confirmed.
Further investigation is underway to establish the full sequence of events and the motive behind the brutal killing.
