Jajpur: The Jajpur district administration on Tuesday ordered the closure of all government, government-aided and private schools until further notice in view of incessant rainfall and deteriorating weather conditions.
According to an order issued by the District Education Officer (DEO), classes in all educational institutions, including Odisha Adarsha Vidyalayas, were suspended from 2 pm on July 28 as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of students.
The administration said the decision was taken following continuous heavy rainfall across the district, which has raised concerns over the safety of school-going children and possible disruptions caused by waterlogging and adverse weather.
Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall at one or two places in several districts, including Jajpur, Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Debagada, Angul, Dhenkanal, Kendujhar, Mayurbhanj, Subarnapur, Boudh, Nuapada and Balangir.
The weather office has also warned of thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty surface winds reaching speeds of 40-50 kmph in these districts. An orange warning has been issued, advising residents to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions as the spell of inclement weather is expected to continue.
