Balasore: Jaleswar Police in Balasore district on Tuesday arrested a woman brown sugar peddler, popularly known as “Scooty Didi,” and seized a significant quantity of contraband from her possession.
According to reports, Ruksana Biwi, a resident of Seikhbad under Jaleswar Municipal limits, was apprehended during a raid conducted by a 15-member police team led by Inspector-in-Charge (IIC) Ranjan Kumar Sethi of Jaleswar Police Station.
Acting on the instructions of Balasore SP, the team raided Ruksana’s house after receiving intelligence about her presence.
Ruksana had been evading the police for some time. During the raid, a large amount of brown sugar was recovered, and her parents were taken to the police station for questioning.
Following her husband’s arrest by Kolkata Police 20 months ago, Ruksana had taken over his illegal drug business. She was reportedly procuring brown sugar from a relative in West Bengal and another smuggler in Rajpur village under the Jaleswar Police Station limits.
Using her Scooty as a mode of transport, Ruksana would deliver brown sugar directly to customers and other traders in Jaleswar, nearby areas, and even West Bengal. Her frequent use of a Scooty to conduct the trade earned her the nickname “Scooty Didi” in criminal circles.
