Jaundice Outbreak In Cuttack

Cuttack: Five people are currently undergoing treatment in hospitals following a jaundice outbreak in Cuttack city, officials confirmed on Tuesday.

The outbreak has been reported in Ward Nos. 10 and 12, affecting localities including Sheikh Bazar, Mansinghpatna, and Mastram Matha.

In response, the Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) has intensified disinfection and public health measures. Commissioner Kirandeep Kaur Sahota, Mayor Subhash Chandra Singh, WATCO officials, and representatives from the health department carried out door-to-door visits in the affected areas. Public awareness campaigns were launched, and bleaching powder was spread across localities to prevent further transmission.

While most patients have recovered and returned home, five remain in serious condition and are receiving medical attention. A health camp has also been established to collect residents’ blood samples for testing, and drinking water samples have been sent for laboratory analysis.

“Five patients are under close observation and are expected to recover soon. WATCO pipelines have been thoroughly chlorinated, and disinfection is ongoing in households dependent on borewell water,” said Commissioner Sahota.

Mayor Singh added that sanitation and waste management in the affected areas are being closely monitored.

“The outbreak appears to be confined to water contamination, and officials are working to prevent any further spread,” he said.

A WATCO official confirmed that drains in contact with water supplies are being cleaned, and chlorination is being maintained at 0.5 ppm.
