Bhubaneswar: While there is no respite from the intense heatwave for the next 48 hours, the mercury soared past 40 degree Celsius at six places, including Bhubaneswar, till 2.30 pm on Wednesday.
Jharsuguda was the hottest at 43.2 degree Celsius, followed by Bhubaneswar and Sambalpur at 42.8 degree Celsius each, Hirakud at 41.6 degree Celsius, Chandbali at 40.6 degree Celsius and Keonjhar at 40 degree Celsius.
Heatwave is likely at one or two places in Khurda, Cuttack, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Sambalpur, Sonepur, Boudh, Balangir, Deogarh and Angul till 8.30 am on Thursday. Similar conditions will prevail at one or two places in Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Sambalpur, Sonepur and Boudh in the subsequent 24 hours, the IMD stated.
There will be no large change in day temperature during the next two days. However, the mercury level will gradually fall by 2 to 4 degrees during the subsequent 3 days, the IMD bulletin read.
